Our Projects > Past Successes

The Kindergarten School

We opened a kingdergarten school in Polhena, fully equipped with everything from learning equipment to shoes and socks for the children.

School Twinning Programme

After the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami, we 'twinned' 15 rural Sri Lankan schools with schools in the UK, so that new friendships bloomed and understanding and knowledge were shared. The programme proved to be very successful, with the UK schools raising much needed funds for their Sri Lankan counterparts. For example, Southbank International School, which was twinned with St Mary’s School in Hambanthota, founded the construction of a community centre for the children of Hambanthota, equipped with ICT facilities, a sports ground and a swimming pool. The UK students together also donated 2000 pairs of shoed and socks to their twins.

Lobster Fisherman

We purchased a plot of land and provided funds for the construction on it of a home for a lobster fisherman who lost his wife to the tsunami, leaving him with five young children to support. Supplies of food, clothing and money sufficient for the family’s sustenance for several months were also donated. 2000 friendship bands made by members of his village were sold by children in the UK, and the money raised from this was returned to Sri Lanka for the development of the village.

Fazly House

We donated a home to a Muslim family which lost their mother and home in the tsunami. We provided monetary assistance to the father of the family to restart his jewellery making business.

Hodgkinson’s Leukaemia

We raised money to fund four injections at the cost of LKR 100,000 each year for a 15 year old girl for the treatment of her leukaemia.

TK Garden Hotel

We provided the TK Garden Hotel with funds so they could pay deposits for the replacement of kitchen and electrical appliances and furniture after their premises were destroyed by the tsunami.

Artificial Limbs

Two artificial arms were fitted on two little children. These limbs will be replaced every three years when they grow out of the present ones.

Epitamulla Village

We supplied provisions of food, cooking equipment and clothing to the residents of Epitamulla, starting soon after the tsunami and continuing for many months. We also provided funds for the reconstruction of the village temple.

Art Therapy

We provided the art therapy for a 10 year-old girl who was raped and had to witness the murder of her family.

St. Servasius College, Matara

We supplied St. Servasius College in Matara with cricket and other sports equipment with a view to developing the skills of the students.

Water well and sanitation facilities

We built four lavatories and a fresh water well for a poor inland school. We also painted the main school building.
